Extra Support for Anna

“All of us, at some time or other, need help.  That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors” ~ Mr. Rogers

Two weeks ago, our friend, colleague and neighbor Anna Morari, discovered a lump in her breast.  She went to a local urgent care to have it checked and that initial appointment was followed by more doctor appointments and a variety of tests in order to reach a diagnosis.  Anna now knows the diagnosis, she has Stage 2-3 HER2-positive breast cancer.  HER2 positive breast cancer is more aggressive than other forms of breast cancer.  It’s a type of breast cancer in which breast cancer cells have a protein receptor called HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2). Normally, this protein helps breast cells grow, divide, and repair themselves. But sometimes, something goes wrong in the gene that controls the HER2 protein and the body creates too many of these receptors. As a result, breast cancer cells grow and divide uncontrollably.

Hearing the “C” word is scary.  It’s a huge step into the unknown and you want time, more time, to sort through all you’ve heard and learned.  But having an aggressive form of breast cancer requires fast action.  Therefore Anna will shortly begin 4-5 months of chemotherapy followed by surgery.  Doctors will also closely monitor the tumor throughout the chemotherapy treatment and should any changes be noted surgery could be accelerated.  There is no time to waste.

“All of us, at some time or other, need help”.  Today, it’s Anna and her family.  Any donation, no matter the amount, would be most welcomed.  Positive thoughts and prayers equally so!  We want Anna to know she’s not alone, that we’re right there beside her in this fight.  All money collected will go directly to Anna and her family.  It will be used as they feel best to ease the burden of medical expenses and/or other services required during Anna’s treatment and recovery.  Because 100% recover she MUST … for herself, her husband and two young children, and for all us to whom she is connected as family, friend and neighbor.
