Hi,
My name is Chantal. I was first diagnosed on November 11, 2002 with Breast Cancer in the right breast. My children were 6 and 2. It was stage 2 and had traveled to the first lymph node. I had surgery and did Chemo and Radiation with the trial teams at Royal Victoria Hospital and Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre as preventative purposes. I received 8 chemotherapy treatments, 25 radiation treatments and 8 boosters. I remained cancer free for 18 years until January 4th, 2021.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastasized Cancer to the lungs and bones. I had a huge pleural effusion. They drained over 5 litres of fluid from my lungs pleura in that first week. The draining continued for 4 months. This diagnosis had come just as the world had shut down for a second time by Covid 19. I presently have amazing care. I am doing a holistic and Western medicine approach. There is NO CURE for M.B.C.
I was given a general life expectancy of 5 years. The first 2 years, I was positive and optimistic. I was placed on a trial again and things began to shrink. I was just living to stay alive. After 6 months, my mother was diagnosed with the same cancer. She fought for 2.5 years and I fought along with her. After her death in December 2023, the trial drugs stopped having a positive affect. things where slowly progressing again. After a failed 2nd treatment option, I began the 3rd option of Fulsverant injections. I was on this treatment from April 2024 to February 2025. This is when my perception switched to living life to the fullest one day at a time. I'm a recovering alcoholic of 12 years clean, sober. This program saved my life from myself and helped me see that this disease isn't any different. I'm not guaranteed tomorrow
In February, I gave Mistletoe Treatment a try. The naturopath put me on Tamoxifen and I began these injections. Mistletoe is a complimentary treatment to help the overall quality of my life while on treatment and receiving Chemotherapy.
I've never asked for financial help as have trusted that our finances could always be managed. I also have the mindset that there isn't a price tag on happiness and life. Although we are meeting most of our financial commitments, we have fallen behind on some important things that need to be in place for my holistic health.
I need to pay for my own health insurance as work does not cover that. This is 500$ a month expense that I just can't pay anymore. In order to reinstate my insurance I need to pay the arrears of 1715.91 owing on the account. The Mistletoe injections cost me 115.00 a month and that is out of pocket. I attend my yearly Sundance and that costs money to travel and help pay for the lodge. Sundance is an important part of my spiritual healing. Lastly, the adventures I want to keep doing while my health is still somewhat good requires extra funds.
I don't know how well I will feel as my treatments are every 3 weeks for as long as it works. I've always wanted to do a long distance ride and we've decided to ride to Sturgis, South Dakota for the 85th Rally. We had an outpouring of support and have planned our stays with fellow riders at their homes and businesses. I also really feel connected to the land there. I'm surrounded by my medicines and would take time to harvest a bit of prairie sage. I'm also hoping to be up close to the Bison.
Any help would be appreciated and well utilized.
Thank-you ~ Miigwech
