Extend Treatment for Kellie Payne

Dear Friends of Kellie Payne,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a plea for your support. Our friend, the much beloved Kellie Payne, is currently undergoing addiction and alcoholism treatment at Recovery Ways here in Salt Lake City. In the past 15 days, this treatment has made remarkable progress in her quality of life and happiness. Until today, when we got the news from our insurance carrier, Kellie had not cried or had a seizure or a panic attack in the past two weeks, which is fantastic. She has been doing exceptionally well and has been happier than I have seen her in years. She is devastated by the news that Cigna wants to move her from her program several weeks early.

To be clear, this is more than just about Kellie's drug treatment. This intensive treatment and rigorous therapy is vital to her quality of life after her accident. As some of you know, her addiction and drug use, which has been up until now, severely compounding the effects of her traumatic brain injury that she suffered in the spring. The brain injury has been extremely life-altering for her. She has had seizures, violent mood, and emotional swings, and the self-medication has only exacerbated the issues and symptoms. It has altered her ability to heal truly. While we are incredibly grateful for her progress so far, we are facing a challenging situation.

Despite Kellie's progress, her insurance company, Cigna, is attempting to cut short the intensive treatment that has been instrumental in her huge recovery strides. Kellie believes that she still needs more time in treatment to ensure the best possible outcome and quality of life. She is distraught by the news we received today. Unfortunately, the financial burden of extending this treatment has become overwhelming, and we cannot do it alone.
