Hello, we're the Stone Family, and we're reaching out for support during a challenging time. Our cherished family member, Teddy, faced a sudden medical emergency, requiring urgent veterinary care. Now, we're seeking help to cover the unexpected costs and ensure Teddy receives the treatment he needs.
As many of you already know, Tracy's unexpected layoff at the end of 2022 hit us hard. Despite her dedication to her work as a Handyma'am and her talent for refinishing furniture, the loss of Tracy's job forced us to drain our savings just to stay afloat. Your generosity during this difficult time means more to us than words can express.
Here's a breakdown of what happened -
Our world turned upside down when Teddy (6 years old), the giver of all the kisses, started showing signs of lethargy on Sunday night. Concern quickly turned to alarm by Monday morning (3/11) when his condition had significantly worsened. Rushing him to the vet, we were met with a grim reality. The vet's urgent words hit us like a ton of bricks: "This is very serious. You need to take him right to the emergency room. And I'll be honest with you, it doesn't look good." Teddy's health was hanging by a thread, and our hearts sank as we grappled with the severity of the situation.
At the emergency room, Teddy's condition was even more dire than we feared. His blood pressure was nearly unmeasurable, and his body temperature had plummeted to under 90 degrees. He lay motionless, fighting for his life. With hours of intensive care, including IV treatments, Teddy began to show signs of improvement. By Monday afternoon, a glimmer of hope emerged as he mustered the strength to lift his head. We are so thankful to the doctors and nurses at VCA Animal Specialty Group for knowing what to look for and how to help him hang on.
On Tuesday, we received the final diagnosis: Teddy has Hypoadrenocorticism (HOAC), commonly known as Addison's disease, an endocrine condition. This means he'll require lifelong medication and shots to manage his condition. But he should be able to live a long and healthy life.
Thankfully Teddy responded so well to the treatment that he is now back at home with us.
Teddy's first follow-up appointment is scheduled for two weeks. During this visit, the vet will assess his progress and adjust his treatment plan as needed. In the coming months, we'll be visiting the vet approximately once a month. During these appointments, the vet will closely monitor Teddy's condition with blood tests to assess his medication needs.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read about our poor Teddy Bubbas and supporting us during this challenging time. Your kindness and generosity mean more to us than words can express. Please know that every donation, share, and word of encouragement makes a difference. We are deeply grateful for your support and friendship.
Lots of Teddy kisses,
The Stone Family
