Update: Luz's health took a sudden and drastic turn for the worst this last week. I spent a full day monitoring her , hand -feeding her and trying to get her to drink water. Ultimately Luz was uncomfortable and unenthusiastic about life, experiencing severe digestion issues. She was ready to cross the rainbow bridge unfortunately and so I had to make that difficult decision to let her soul go home. Below is Luz just hours before I had to say good-bye. My heart aches for her, but I trust she's roaming endless hills in the spirit realm.
Hi, my name is Stephanie Cantú and live in Austin, Texas with my two fur babies. This May a sweet lil angel came out of nowhere into the neighborhood, was living under a car until we gave her some food and good scratches. We tried to track down her owners, though she wasn't chipped nor was she fixed. No one claimed her online unfortunately...
The vet said she was about 1.5 years old and seemed healthy...she would run circles around me like a race dog, loved our hikes and water, taking road trips, eating good. As I was in school I put everything on the back burner, thinking she was perfectly fine. Fast forward to late Sept. she started to get a painful lump on the left side of her body that progressively got bigger.
Although the Dr assured me it wasn't cancerous because of her young age, she went into surgery to have it removed. During surgery they discovered that it was in fact a cancerous mass that had spread aggressively. It was on her ribs, kidney, spleen, liver, and even her diaphragm. Despite surgery complications she survived and is currently two weeks post op, doing better than expected.
The biopsy diagnosed her with Extraskeletal Osteosarcoma, which is an extremely rare cancer that targets the internal organs. The prognosis is quite bleak leaving me with limited options.
- Find an oncologist and have her treated with chemo/radiation therapy with a likelihood to extend her life possibly another year.
- Immediate euthanization
- Initiate palliative care here at home, making her as comfortable as possible with pain and anti-inflammatory meds
I am financially stressed and stretched at the moment which ultimately leaves the last option being my only option. This has been a devastating situation to experience, on top of the stress. My school studies have been put on hold and I have spent a lot of time making the appropriate amenities for her to be as comfortable and happy as is possible. This is why today, with great humility I am asking for help. Any donation is not too small. Prayers of support, strength and positive thoughts are also greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance ❤️❤️❤️
