We know a hard working lady, Debbie Bird, a West Virginian who rents in Nitro, WV. She works as a Security Guard.
Debbie needs some help!! She had a terrible fall several weeks ago at home and landed on her shoulder. The fall caused torn ligaments in her rotator cuff and chipped a bone causing her a lot of pain.
She was scheduled for surgery in January, 2018.
- They planned to place and screw the loose bone back in place.
- They were going to place loose ligaments back into the rotator cuff.
- Most importantly, they were going to remove some severe arthritis that is cutting into her nerves. Without doing so, she will lose COMPLETE function of her arm.
While Debbie feels fortunate to have medical insurance, her policy has a very high deductible and a high coinsurance percentage. She has discussed the situation with the hospital’s business office and found that she must pay her maximum out of pocket amount up-front before the surgery can be performed. She had to cancel the surgery due to this. She needs $15,000 to pay the up-front fees required by the hospital and the outstanding emergency room, MRI, and doctor charges incurred when she fell.
Debbie is a remarkably stoic individual, and tough on the exterior as her job as Security Guard demands, but has a heart of gold and will help anyone with anything needed. She has always been known to have at least 2 jobs just to maintain a living. Before becoming a Security Guard in our building, she actually drove a concrete mixer and delivered concrete. For those of us that know Debbie – that isn’t surprising – she has always been one tough lady.
She has even shed a few tears when discussing how stressed out she feels over not being able to obtain the much needed relief from the pain she endures on a daily basis. Those who know her, know that this is not normal for Debbie and this only emphasizes how severe the stress must be on her. She even volunteers for “extra” responsibilities outside her normal hours as Security Guard, to perform such tasks as cleaning windows, floors, ANYTHING to supplement her income. Debbie is not a lazy person. We all know that if she would be able to have this much needed surgery, she would return to working as hard as she always does. If we can raise enough money for Debbie she will finally receive relief from her intense pain. Donations are crucial to help this wonderful West Virginian woman receive her surgery and pay for previous medical bills.
