Extend a Hand to Colin and His Family

Hi, my name is Rob, and I’m an active-duty military officer currently pursuing my master’s degree at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. I have the privilege of sponsoring Major Colin, an international exchange officer from Cameroon who has dedicated over 18 years of service to his country’s fight against violent extremist organizations.
Colin arrived in the U.S. in September to begin his studies, and his children Nissy (14), Marvin (12), and Whitney (10), along with his mother-in-law Angela (72), joined him in December, just before Christmas. Leaving behind a third-world country to come to one of the most affluent areas of the United States has been a profound adjustment for them all. While Colin’s government provided him the opportunity to study at NPS, financial assistance was minimal, forcing him to take out loans to cover his family’s travel and living expenses. Recently, Colin’s youngest daughter, Whitney, suffered a freak accident requiring emergency dental surgery. Although I helped him secure insurance for his children, Colin will still have to pay 20% of the medical costs out of pocket, adding to his already heavy financial burden. He is being asked to pay $6,152 dollars upfront for the surgical intervention.
As Americans, we have an incredible opportunity to serve as ambassadors of goodwill and compassion to those who come to our country seeking a brighter future. Colin embodies resilience, faith, and dedication—both to his family and his nation. This exchange program represents more than an educational opportunity; it’s a bridge between nations and a chance for us to show the best of what America stands for: generosity, unity, and hope.
Colin will return to Cameroon in the winter of 2026 to serve his country with the knowledge and skills he gained here. My hope is that he leaves not only with a world-class education but also with a heart full of gratitude for the kindness and support he received during his time in the United States.
Your contribution—no matter how small—can help ease the financial strain on Colin and his family during this critical period. Together, we can ensure they leave the U.S. with a lasting impression of the generosity and values we hold dear. Thank you for helping a fellow servicemember and his family in their time of need. Your support is a testament to the strength and compassion of our community and nation.
