Just wanted to share an update for those following Erika’s recovery. As many of you know, she had surgery on Thursday to replace C4–C7 in her neck and was originally expected to come home Friday. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case due to some unexpected complications.

During surgery, a small tear occurred in her spinal cord, and a lumbar drain had to be placed to manage spinal fluid. They had hoped to remove the drain today after clamping it yesterday, but it needs to stay in longer, which means more time in the hospital.

She’s also now having a reaction to one of her medications, so the medical team is working through that as well.

We’re asking for help so her husband can stay with her longer during this difficult time. Erika truly believed she’d be home within 24 hours—she was so focused on the anesthesia and recovery—but things have taken an unexpected turn.
