Help Support Rebecca's Road To A Full Recovery

Donation protected

This GoFundMe page is for my beautiful, humorous, sweet-spirited daughter, Rebecca. She has been battling Anorexia Nervosa since she was 12 years old... she is now 24 and will be turning 25 in less than 8 weeks. Experts say early intervention is the best chance for a full recovery, and as her mother, I did just that. As soon as we learned of her diagnoses, we got her into see the only eating disorder specialist in the Florence area along with a registered dietician that had experience dealing with this illness. But eating disorders are also extremely complex and can coincide with co-occurring disorders that make recovery for some individuals more difficult. Rebecca's case has been a challenging one over the years. There are many layers to her disorder which make the recovery process much harder for her. Now she is in a medically and mentally compromised state where the eating disorder has completely taken over. We need your help to get her the treatment she so desperately requires.

Rebecca is extremely sick. After losing 30+ pounds from her healthy weight range that her treatment team has set for her, she is not only significantly underweight, she has developed other medical issues due to her AN. She has developed a GI condition that has scarred the lining of her stomach and where she has lost muscle tissue due to chronic anorexia. Her resting heart rate lies within the 40-50's range. She has multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies that cause an array of physical issues. The list goes on, but what has been the most frightening thing to see has been her hopeful spirit fade away over the past few months.

Rebecca's insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, has notoriously denied her coverage throughout her treatments the past 4 years. Whenever her outpatient treatment team requires a higher level of care for her, she always agrees to take that necessary step for herself. But after only being in treatment for 3-4 weeks, BCBS denies coverage and leaves her no choice but to step down to a lower level of care where her treatment team knows she will not sustain recovery. Instead of listening to certified eating disorder specialists and their recommendations, BCBS has their own set of requirements for levels of care that are barbarous considering they have no experience in treating these disorders and know what is best for the individuals suffering. You would think BCBS would see the pattern by now and understand that they are forking out more money on their end by denying her coverage year after year due to her relapses caused by insufficient treatment compared to if they let her stay and finish a program and allow her an actual chance at full recovery.

Her outpatient treatment team (primary physician, therapist, and dietician) have all been pleading for her to admit to a residential treatment facility for months. Rebecca is ready to do the hard work required of her, so she has contacted the treatment center that her team has recommended and after completing an evaluation, the facility has accepted her into their program. They would like to see her admitted into their program by the end of this week.

Despite her eating disorder telling her that she will never recover, Rebecca is still hopeful for a life without her eating disorder. She believes in full recovery because she has witnessed it occur within others. She has goals to go back to school once she is healthy and ultimately be of service to those struggling with what she is currently. She has a full vision of what her life could look like without anorexia, but she needs help getting through the current roadblocks that are preventing her from doing so.

As her mother, I have depleted all of my resources financially. I have watched my girl suffer day in and day out with this disease for twelve years. I want so much more for her, specifically I want her to have a fighting chance to beat this eating disorder. So I strongly ask for your help at this time! Please consider contributing to her treatment fund - everything that is donated will be used solely for her treatment and continued stay. If you cannot contribute monetarily, please consider sharing this page to your friends and family! Thank you so much for all of your love, support, and prayers for her and our family for all of these years. We deeply appreciate it and know that God will provide a way for us! - Heidi
