Express: An Experience by Javon Blair
Express: An Experience by Javon Blair is an idea that I had which has snowballed into something I can no longer control. The more I speak about it with people the more I know it must become a reality. This experience will contain all the love that I can muster in one evening. It will create an opportunity for many artists to collaborate with me to create a unique opportunity to bring self expression to everyone who attends. It will combine interactive visual arts, spoken word, the music of Brazilian experimental synth artist MASM, dance, lighting and ambiance to create a night where I get to share myself with you.
Express: An Experience will be held at Spice Monkey Restaurant and Bar in downtown Oakland on the evening of May 6th. The full bar and food menu will be available during the show (This might change to a set menu).
A free art gallery will be held the same evening featuring the art of Zina Escovedo and Javon Blair where original art and prints can be purchased
$20 cash will be charged at the stairs to access Express.
Funds donated will go first towards bringing MASM to the Bay Area from Sao Paolo, Brazil. The night will be incomplete without him here creating the soundscapes of the evening and performing his original music live throughout the experience.
Remaining funds will go towards art materials, lighting and other effects that will be used throughout the evening.
Funds left after all materials are purchased will be used to pay the artists collaborating with me. A lot of love is going into the few hours we will be filling the space at Spice Monkey and I want to make sure that those who are working beside me get to take something away for themselves as well.
A donation today creates more funds for materials in the long run as the longer we wait the more expensive the plane ticket from Sao Paulo to SFO gets. We're currently seeing prices as low as $550, so thank you for donating with urgency.
Your support means the world to me and helps me to fulfill a dream I never knew that I had. The doors that can open for all the artists involved will be infinite. Who knows what kind of projects could come from participating in this one evening of expression! Thank you for helping us find out.
