Expenses While Baby Recovers From Heart Surgery

Hannah and Chris fell in love and became best friends over three years ago. Early in their journey together, they knew they wanted to have a child. Wanting turned to desperation after years of failed fertility treatments, tests, procedures, and a pregnancy loss. Having a child together began to feel like it would only be a dream of theirs--and never their reality. Yet, they did not give up hope.

In March of 2022, Chris and Hannah found out that they were expecting their miracle baby. As the lines on the pregnancy tests grew darker each day, Chris and Hannah’s excitement also grew. They had finally been blessed with the answer to their many, many prayers--a precious baby boy, Myles Christopher.

During Hannah’s routine 20 week scan to check the chambers of Myles’ heart, the doctor noticed abnormalities. Upon more scans, it was found that Myles suffers from a congenital heart defect, HLHS, which has caused the left side of his heart to be underdeveloped.

Because of HLHS and the level of care Myles will need upon birth, he will be born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 15, 2022. At just 7 days old, Myles will undergo his first 10-12 hour open-heart surgery, resulting in a minimum of a two month hospital stay.

Between the ages of 4-6 months, he will have a second open-heart surgery with another minimum hospital stay of 2 months.

While Myles is in the hospital, Chris and Hannah will be displaced from their home life in Monroe, Louisiana to be with him. This lengthy stay out of town will impact their income and the ability to maintain their recurring monthly home expenses, as well as the expenses they will encounter to live in New Orleans while Myles recovers.

Chris and Hannah are giddy with excitement, but also anxious about the unknown that awaits Myles’ arrival. We hope to ease some of their stress so they can focus on bonding with Myles and caring for him during this difficult time.
