Trying to come up with the words to say to our friends and family is not always the easiest. But here goes ..
For the past couple days Tim had been experiencing some intense headaches. We didn't think much of it until it started to affect his vision on Monday. I was at work and he called and told me he needed to go to the ER. (If you know Tim, you know he hated doctors offices so when he said he needed to go I knew it was bad). So I rushed home and picked him up and off to the hospital we went. After what seemed like forever they got him checked in with his vitals and had a CAT scan performed.
About an hour or so later they put him in a room and the doctor came in. Checked him over and did some more tests and then proceeded to go over the CAT scan results.
The words, "I am not sure how to tell you this, but you have a mass on your brain." Echoed through our ears. I know for a fact that I blacked out and felt like I was in a dream and was trying to escape it, but it was indeed real. The look in my husband's eyes as the doctor told him this news will forever be engraved in my mind. We were both shocked and not expecting this type of news to say the least. The doctor left and tears filled the room as we had no clue what was next.
The doctor returned and gave us some hope that the neurology department said that there is hope it could just be a cyst. We were soon told that he would be transferred to UH of Cleveland to their Neuro department as they are much better suited to take on this type of concern. So around 10:30 PM Monday night they transferred Tim via ambulance to Cleveland while I followed. We arrived and got him into a room immediately.
Yesterday...was rough. Lots of waiting as he was to have an MRI to determine if it was indeed just a cyst. He finally got called down for his MRI last night around 6:15 PM and I swear it was the longest MRI ever. I sat here in his room just circling and praying to God that it would just be a cyst.
Fast forward to an hour ago...the neurosurgeon resident came in and informed us that it was exactly what they thought...A CYST! I have never been so happy to hear those words as I know Tim was too.
So what's next?
Tim will have to undergo brain surgery this Thursday to have it removed because it is putting pressure on things it shouldn't and causing headaches and vision problems. This is VERY scary either way and unsure on the recovery time as of right now. And of course they will still run a biopsy so please be praying that it comes back benign.
My husband and best friend is a fighter and I know he will beat whatever is thrown at him. We ask that you DO NOT text Tim as there is a lot to process, but we do ask for all your love, support and prayers as we navigate this.
I will give an update on Facebook as often as I can, but please do not rapid fire message as this is hard on our family and do not want to cause any added stress.
Please continue to pray for Tim, our kids (who will find out today when they come to see their daddy), myself and all the surgeons.
For those that have been praying we hear and feel those prayers so keep them coming!
- Much love, Ashley
