Help Us Fund More Species Labels for Community Wildlife Gardens
Welcome to the PGAS Wildlife Habitat Program’s First Ever Fundraiser!
As many of you know, when we installed the Wildlife Garden at Joe’s Movement Emporium in 2022, we created several replicable tools along with it.
The first is our PRISM—Plan, Remove, Install, Sign and Maintain—framework for creating community wildlife gardens. PRISM has turned out to be a useful guiding tool for several community gardens that are now installed, underway and/or being planned in Brentwood, Colmar Manor, Riverdale Park, Seat Pleasant and others.
Second, we offer partners help with developing those plans; as of now Habitat Program Co-Director Barry Stahl has designed gardens for all of the sites above and is working on several more.
Third, we give our partners access to our unique signs: large, Spanish English bi-lingual explanatory signs and plant labels that show at least one significant benefit each named species brings to wildlife. We believe these are the first plant labels of this type anywhere. They have proven to be not just beautiful and educational, but popular as well.
Our only limitation is that we have labels for just 31 species. Given the varied conditions of the places seeking our assistance, we need to expand our label library quickly. We have teamed up with Tessla Thompson, a wonderful local artist, to create labels for as many of the remaining 70+ plants on our Habitat 100+ list as we can.
We need $10,000 to realize this dream. Can you help us get there? We hope so!
