EXPAND NEVADA CITY'S GREEN SPACE -
PLEASE SUPPORT THE PELLO PROPERTY ACQUISITION!
---------------------
The Project
The Greater Cement Hill Neighborhood Association, Sierra County Land Trust and Nevada City Neighbors are working together to acquire the 2.2 acre Pello Property through grants. The property is located at the corner of Cement Hill and Highway 49.
Once the property is purchased, it will be rehabilitated to join aesthetically, culturally and biologically with the Hirschman Trail Open Space and then donated to Nevada City as Open Space in perpetuity.
The Fundraising Need
$7,000 is needed to cover the costs of an appraisal, a biotic study and the concept maps mandated by the grants being pursued.
These essential steps will enable us to apply for the grants, and help us envision the property’s potential and create a plan for its rehabilitation.
Why This Matters
The Pello property is a crucial cornerstone to preserve as Open Space because of its strategic location. It is contiguous to the beloved Hirschman Trail and Pond, the cornerstone of the Cement Hill neighborhood, and the western gateway to historic Nevada City.
This acquisition will expand Hirschman Trail Open Space, and will also allow for the expansion of the Hirschman Trail parking lot. As Nevada City’s Vice Mayor said, “this 2.2 acres is the missing piece of the puzzle.”
As Highway 49 continues to develop, with a new courthouse, expanded county facility near the Elks Lodge and the 16-bed psychiatric facility to be built next to the jail, this is the time to ensure that this heritage piece of property is preserved, in keeping with the intent of the City’s Scenic Corridor goals for Highway 49.
