UPDATE: We would like to thank everyone who's helped us over the past several months. At this time we've all agreed that we should end this campaign. First and foremost because there are very important causes out there we'd love everyone to support. Two of them we supported on Sunday by donating ALL of our take-out revenue. If you'd like to support The Exley team, come down to our take-out service and grab an excellent bottled cocktail and a hot dog to go. We love and appreciate all of you so much. It has broken our hearts to have to temporarily close our awesome little cocktail bar while we fight the spread of this virus. We in the bar and hospitality industry consider ourselves uniquely lucky to make a living making our guests, friends and loved ones happy. Our staff of bartenders, barbacks and porter are the heart of The Exley. Without them we would never have become that little unicorn of a bar. Losing, even if (hopefully) temporary, our jobs at Exley has thrown all of our staff into incredible financial uncertainty and turmoil. To be sure, many are hurting: we stand in solidarity with everyone in our industry and call for city, state and federal assistance for those most affected by this crisis.
If you have some financial room to maneuver during this crisis and you love The Exley and its staff as much as I do, please consider supporting our staff by virtually "buying" a drink and tipping your bartender. Our owners have generously committed to matching 50% of your donation in the form of a bar tab when we re-open. So if you give $50 you get a $25 bar tab. These "tips" on future drinks will help our staff get through this time when our incomes have suddenly gone to zero. 100% of donations will support all our bar staff based on how many shifts we will be missing each week (1 point per shift) in this difficult time, including our awesome porter (cleaner) Maribel whom though you may not have met you see her hard work in our tidy, clean little bar. I will distribute funds to staff as i would for payroll. I can speak for all of us when I say we miss each and every one of you and are looking forward to serving you the best cocktails in Brooklyn very very soon.
