My name is Ernesto Castillo and I am graduating this May with a double major degree in Political Science and Chicano/a Studies at California State University, Northridge. I am the first in my family to do so. As a child, it has always been my dream to work in politics and, specifically, to work in Washington D.C. This dream has continued my whole life and, now, I have the opportunity to achieve it this summer.
Born and raised in Inglewood, California, my life goal is to use the knowledge I have attained and provide leadership for my community. Growing up in Inglewood, I have witnessed how legislative action can overlook issues that are salient to inner cities, such as education, crime, and lack of fundamental civil liberties. Currently, we are living in an important time in political history. It will take the involvement of young people like me to challenge the administration and make sure our voices are being heard.
This summer, I have been lucky enough to be accepted to intern for Congressman Tony Cárdenas at Washington D.C. I would be doing a dishonor to myself and to my community to allow monetary issues prevent me from this incredible opportunity. Gaining professional experience in the legislative heart of the nation would be a rare opportunity for a kid from an inner city such as Inglewood.
By donating, you would be allowing me to gain the proper professional experience to assist my own underprivileged community. Anything will help.
Thank you.
