Examination Assassination

Did you hate the Leaving Cert? Do you remember being ready to crack under the stress it induced? Would you have done anything to pass? If so, just how far would you go to pass.....?

Hi, my name is Ethan McCarron and I'm a first year film student at Queens University. In summer of 5th year, during my summer exams, I came up with an idea for a short film based on the Leaving Cert. We had always heard an urban legend that if someone dies during the Leaving Cert exam, everyone sitting the test automatically got 100 percent. We always joked about this in our friend group, about the lengths we would go to pass.

Then, BAM, light bulb. What if I made a film about two students who are so desperate to pass the Leaving that they conspire to kill the class bully? I think there's not enough films made about the Leaving Cert so this is definitely a unique idea. This film is a dark comedy mixed with educational satire that comments on the stupidity of the Leaving Cert format. It has been so much fun to write and we begin shooting on May 26th in Beech Hill College, Monaghan.

We would be grateful for any donation, big or small. The money would go towards costumes, catering, equipment, software and all other film-related costs. I will be posting updates on social media regularly and we can't wait to show this film when it's done!!!!
