Barney Powell's Fight with Cancer
Donation protected
It is with a deep sadness and a GREAT amount of fear of the unknown that I must start this account.
My husband, best friend and soul mate Barney Powell has been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. Our jouney began May 2015 with a simple blood test which revealed his PSA's (Prostate Specific Antigens) were high and were immediately referred to a urologist specialist to discuss options. Due to his heart condition that we dealt with last year we had to take him to a cardio doctor and go through a stress test to determine if he could be cleared for a biopsy of the prostate. That biopsy resulted in Prostate cancer with a tumor and the oncologist plan is to attack with radiation.
He is no longer covered by the Affordable Helath Care Blue Cross and Blue Shield and is forced to start medicare just as we reached all of our out of pocket deductibles and in addition we lost our presciption drug coverage.
We are not looking for more than to cover the radiation treatments (approx. $5,000) and further medication (approx. $3,000) and any additional expenses that may occur throughout the process.
My husband does not know I am starting this account as I continue to assure him, "I GOT THIS!".
If you have men in your life, PLEASE encourage them to be tested. African American men have a 64% higher chance of Prostate cancer.
My personal goal is to remain strong in our faith, humble and grateful. Thank you to our beautiful family and friends for you all are the wind beneath our wings. Our cup runneth over with your love and support.
Much love to all of you,
Regina Powell
