Ex RNLI Lifeboat J&MJ Return Voyage to Cornwall

Donation protected
We found ex RNLI Solent Class Lifeboat, ON1008, 48-005,"James And Mariska Joicey" for sale in December 2013,  in a derelict condition  after being marooned for 15 years on a lough shore in Co.Donnegal. After initial remedial work we devised with enthusiastic local help to reflect her in August 2014. More remedial work continued and in July 2015 with a small crew and under escort by another ex RNLI Lifeboat we sailed her to Portrush and then onto Coleraine where she has been under restoration.

Re-floated in September 2019, internal fitting out continued  but after February 2020 and the lockdown we couldn't get over to ready her for the final fit out and sea trials. Instead she was secured in Coleraine Harbour for the duration.

Now we have exciting  plans in June /July this year to continue the fit out and fully install all navigation systems, have a new survey, then begin sea trials followed in August by a return voyage to return to her last RNLI Station at the Lizard Peninsula, where we also hope to reunite after 33 years since they swapped on station, with ex RNLI Lifeboat, ON989, 48-02, "James And Catherine Macfarlane", herself like "James And Mariska Joicey" recently restored against the odds to full working order after many years on display at Lands End.

Once the final essential work is finished on J&MJ we will undertake a long sea trial to the Isle of Jura and then proceed South via the Crinan Canal, Portpatrick, across the Irish Sea to Donagadee and then via harbours t.b.c. on the Irish coast, across to Padstow and around the coast of Cornwall to RNLI Lizard and finally to our new mooring near Falmouth. During the passage to Cornwall we will promote the RNLI with a piece of its living history and in future will continue to promote the RNLI at Maritime Festivals and other appropriate events.

We need your financial help to fund the final works, survey, sea trials and fuel, harbour fees and other associated expenses on the voyage. All contributors to the fund will become named and honoured members of the official "James And Mariska Joicey Shore Support Crew". Hopefully we can meet some of you in a harbour on the passage too.
