Sasha’s recovery

To our dearest family, friends, and others alike,
Hello, all! I hope this page finds you well.
To begin this story/journey, I would like to preface that my sister is a “bad ass.” Sasha began her journey of cycling many years ago and continues to ride in honor of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Foundation. She pushes herself beyond to achieve her goals for such a great cause, a cause our family holds dear. Our family is so proud of her accomplishments and dedication.
Last Saturday, February 18th, Sasha met with her cycling group about an hour outside of Atlanta, Sarrenbee, GA. Like most rides you gear up and start early. Like most days, Sasha does a minimum of thirty miles. This day however, her group was attacked by dogs that must have gotten loose. In a mere matter of seconds her friend and fellow cyclist barreled into the dog that put itself in front of his wheel, causing to skid. Sasha was following close, hit his tire and went ahead over handlebar onto her face and elbows. Obviously, shock took over! She waited on the side of the road for the paramedics to arrive. She and a few other were pretty banged up. The EMT was quick to say she needed to go to the hospital for x-rays, adding “this doesn’t look good!” Sasha, (this is where the bad ass part comes in) DROVE herself, by herself an hour and change back to Atlanta so she didn’t have to be so far from home and also, not to inconvenience anyone for help. With x-rays administered she realized how bad the damage was. Sasha has broken BOTH her elbows. Luckily the right elbow is not as severely broken. However, the left is a bloody mess! See pic attachment.
Sasha is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning in an excellent facility, Emory Musculoskeletal Institute. She will need at the very least two pins and or screws and possibly a plate. We are in for a long-sh and painful recovery of no less than six weeks. It is truly amazing how hard it is NOT to have the ability to freely use your arms, let alone hands. To do every day, menial tasks is proven very difficult (i.e., going to the loo or blowing your nose, drinking, etc.).
In hope to help Sasha over the next few weeks with the massive medical bills and essential help she requires. My family and I would appreciate any help offered, as every little bit helps in the biggest way. Everything is beyond appreciated :-)
I will do my very best to keep you all updated on Sasha’s progress, including photos if she allows me to!
Thank you, and all the very best from the Buzzetta family.
Love to All,
Mary
