My name is Robert Jones. I'm 35. My brother Nick Jones is 1 year younger than me and has been with me as long as I can remember. I've never known a time I wasn't looking out for him or sharing time with him. Our dad passed away Aug 4th 2021 which was life shattering for us and soon after, my brother was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma which began to take over his whole body shortly after being diagnosed. Being beside him......whether it was to try to help settle his nausea, talk about life, help with projects he couldn't do on his own anymore, walking him, cutting his hair to even it out when it started falling out, lifting him in and out of the car to radiation appointments or catching him during a standing seizure... ...I've watched cancer change my brother's reflection in the mirror and take everything from him but his mind and his love for us, his family.
I have never seen someone so strong fight so hard. Through every stage of life we went through growing up, schools, hobbies, phases from kids to adults, no one got me laughing like my brother. During rough times as kids all we had was humor to get each other through it. We had the same humor. We struggled finding our places in the world but he has always been a great person with a huge heart. He and his fiancé Jewell and the kids would hand out food to the homeless on Thanksgiving. As far as the cancer, I've never seen such a brutal fight and he never gave in and always stayed positive for his kids and the rest of us despite being violently sick every morning with no food staying in his system, along with new growths, pains, marks and other changes he was experiencing daily in his body. He always found ways to fight past it somehow and find the strength to tell us he's not done yet and say something to make us all smile to give us the strength we needed to help him fight this.
Yesterday, I lost my little brother to this vicious disease. Today I'm at the funeral home to honor his every wish and try to help the close family members who put their jobs aside to care for him full-time which came with a cost. I hope anyone who knows him sees this and can help his family the way he always helped others. His 2 daughters live with me and I'm doing my best to help raise them well. He has 4 kids total, 15 and under that don't know a life without him and I'm trying to help wherever I can. Any and all help is more appreciated than I can express. Thank you for giving me a moment of your time and your compassion. Every helpful gesture is priceless right now and your names will be written down and never be forgotten by my family or myself. When I see you need help, I'll be there to help however I can. Thank you.
