Lake Havasu's New Year Baby
Don protégé
First baby of the new year in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Kalvin Joseph Shahateet was born to proud parents Joseph and Jaime Shahateet. 7 pounds 8 ounces of what they initially thought to be a healthy baby boy they soon realized that there were problems. Not long after birth Kalvin was taken for his first bath when the medical team noticed that his breathing was labored. After applying oxygen he was given an Xray and diagnosed with Meconium Aspiration...In other words he breathed in amniotic fluid with thick meconium stool. Kalvin was airlifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital where he's currently being treated with a steady flow of oxygen. Kalvin is also being tested for Kartagener syndrome and Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). As if this weren't enough, Kalvin was also diagnosed with Dextrocardia with Situs Inversus, a rare condition present at birth in which the organ's are positioned in a mirror image (i.e., the heart on the right side of the chest).
Jaime and Joseph are in Phoenix caring for Kalvin and trying to help the doctors' get him well enough to come home to Havasu. Joseph is a valuable employee of Maverik Adventure's First Stop on McCulloch Blvd. N and Jaime is a local shuttle driver. As a friend and workmate I would love to help them get some money together for life and medical expenses while they're nursing their son to health. I would very much appreciate any donations for this beautiful family. As a community we welcomed Kalvin into Havasu on the front page of the local newspaper, it would be wonderful if we continued to care for him. Thank you for your help and donations.
