Joey's Road to Recovery

From Nikki: On September 30th God got my daddy through 7 hours alone in a canefield with the worst brain injury there is, both punchered lungs, fractured bones in his neck and multiple other injuries. On October 1st the neurologist told me my daddy was brain dead. 2 hours after that I was told he was brain dead the nurse called and said my daddy moved his legs when I left that night. On October 9th the trauma doctor told me my daddy may be unresponsive forever. On October 10th God let my daddy show me he could blink. On October 11th God let my daddy look me in my eyes for minutes at a time. On October 11th daddy followed no commands for his OT therapy his notes said POOR. On October 13th God let my daddy follow a command and prove he was still in there. On October 29th God allowed my dad to wave and do thumbs up. On October 30th my dad sat in a wheelchair for the first time after the accident. On October 31st Touro New Orleans rehab denied my dads application to go to their rehab. On November 1st neuromed Baton Rouge denied my dads application to go to their rehab. On November 2nd one of the NPs called and told me no rehab would accept him and LTACs wouldn’t either because he wasn’t ill enough. He told me my options were a nursing home, a swing bed unit or for him to come home. Of course I said no, no & no. On November 2nd God let my daddy shake his head yes when I asked him if he knew who I was. On November 4th my daddy FINALLY stuck his tounge out at me after me trying for 3 weeks. On November 4th God let my daddy sit on the side of the bed with no support. On November 7th God let my daddy take 1 small step with support. On November 7th Baton Rouge rehab’s hospitals amazing liasion called me and I knew after our first conversation that that’s where God wanted him. This woman listed to our story. We talked on the phone for half an hour. She listened to how eager I was to fight for my dad. She drove from BR to come see my daddy and then she fought too…and they accepted him. Because she listened, and she believed in him. She saw his potential and did not deny him because of his trach. On November 8th my dads insurance DENIED the insurance pre authorization & their reasoning was “not medically nessessary”. Again I said no, no & no! I was prepared to fight back & so was the amazing team at Ochsner. Our caseworker lined up a peer to peer meeting appeal with the insurance doctors and WON THE APPEAL & yallllll
I can finally scream to the top of my lungs THAT AFTER 41 days my daddy is going to Baton Rouge rehab hospital‼️‼️‼️‼️

Any donations going forward will help Nikki and Jolby with traveling expenses like hotel stays food etc. Also, Joey's home needs repairs before he can return home after rehab. They are currently working on getting the AC fixed with numerous other things. Further most keep the prayers coming.
