As many friends already know, our sweet dog, Evy, has been sick for about two months now. What started as a Lyme and Anaplasmosis infection, has snowballed into (among other things) an ulcer, temporary paralysis, anemia, and most recently a significant and rapid weight loss, with most of her muscle wasting away. After many trips to and stays with our local vet, a lot of bloodwork and other diagnostics, our vet said they’d run out of answers and said that Evy needed specialty care very soon, or we would lose her.

Evy is currently at Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care. An ultrasound this morning showed that her liver and spleen did not look normal, and her spleen is mildly enlarged. A fine needle aspiration is being performed to see if our girl has lymphoma. If she DOES have lymphoma, the treatment will be costly. If she DOESN’T have lymphoma, the continuing search for answers will also be costly.

I have never asked for financial assistance publicly before. I’ve never judged others who have, and I’ve donated many times. I’ve never felt the dire need for public assistance myself, as I do now. This initial trip to Portland will cost a minimum of $1600, and regardless of the outcome of the needle aspiration, we’re looking at what will likely be many thousands more. I am a huge advocate for quality of life, so if Evy’s eventual diagnosis and prognosis is grim, I will only treat her as long as she is comfortable and happy.
