Hi, my name is Rich. I'm fundraising for my mom Evelyn. Evelyn McKean, 77, is a loving and kind-spirited mom who would help people whenever she could. On February 3, one of the snowiest days of the year, her health changed. I took her to the hospital ER with what she thought was laryngitis. They then found dark masses on her liver. They found possible cancer halfway down her esophagus after several tests and doctor visits on March 18. Confirmed by the oncologist on March 23, it was stage 4 advanced cancer. She could take chemo and radiation, but that would make her weaker. She was given 6-8 weeks. She is not in pain, which is a blessing, but she is unable to talk very well and can only whisper, getting a weaker day by day. While her organs are slowly shutting down, she shows more signs of getting close to time. That said the timing of her passing is uncertain? We are in the fourth week, maybe she has a few last weeks left with us.

Financially my mom struggled while living in a petite early 70's mobile home after her retirement from being a nurse’s aide. Several family members had passed away over the past 15 years, which took a toll on her, especially when my sister passed. Then that left me the only caregiver/family member to handle her affairs, and it is beyond my financial ability to provide any help. I would help whenever I could. She couldn't afford life insurance when the deductibles got too high, so she had to drop the policy. There is now very little in her account to nothing to cover her medical, nursing home or funeral-Burial expenses.

A little about my mom. She is a very devoted christian lady who loves her family. Her interests and hobbies are jewelry making, photography, Disney, cats, birds, travel, beach, Cedar Point summer trips and her loves are her friends and grand children.
