Help fund Amelie's pre-collegiate education

Hello, my name is Amelie Ojeda. I am a sophomore in high school and have recently been accepted into The School of The New York Times Summer Academy. I was selected for their Fashion/Photography/Film program. I am ecstatic to start and I need your help. This program will give me the chance to have hands-on experience, dive deeper into my passions, and help me think critically and creatively about my future career.

Throughout my life, I have always expressed myself in creative ways. By writing, drawing, playing the guitar, songwriting, photography, painting, filming, and dancing! These are all things that make me happy. As a small child, I would film myself doing multiple things. From planting seeds in my grandmother’s garden in Puerto Rico to doing make-up tutorials and playing with tiny toys (also making reviews for said tiny toys). I enjoyed documenting it all. I also edited my videos to the best of my abilities. I used music and different effects to polish my work. It is something that I have continued to do and have developed a passion for. I am now realizing that this passion is for telling stories. I am a storyteller.

The New York Times Summer Academy will allow me to not only learn from amazing teachers but will also inspire me to create more and build observational and storytelling skills through the lenses of fashion, photography, and film. I believe that these skills will make an impact in this world. It will give me the confidence to use my art to highlight social issues and to give a voice to those who might not have one at the moment. It would be a dream come true if I could have the chance to explore the media industry in this capacity!

I’m very thankful to have my family’s support in pursuing my dreams. However, the program is well beyond what we can afford so I’m reaching out for financial assistance. I need help to fund my tuition and other program fees such as materials, and processing fees. Any support that you can provide would make a world of a difference. No donation is too small! Anything helps.

Hola, me llamo Amelie Ojeda. Estoy en segundo año de escuela superior y recientemente me aceptaron en The School of The New York Times Summer Academy. He sido seleccionada para su programa de Moda/Fotografía/Cine. Este programa me dará la oportunidad de adquirir experiencia práctica, profundizar en mis pasiones y me ayudará a pensar de forma crítica y creativa sobre mi futura carrera. ¡Estoy súper emocionada y necesito tu ayuda!

A lo largo de mi vida, siempre me he expresado de forma creativa. Escribiendo, dibujando, tocando la guitarra, componiendo canciones, tomando fotos, pintando, haciendo cine y bailando. ¡Todas estas cosas me hacen feliz! De pequeña, me grababa haciendo distintas cosas. Desde sembrar semillas en el jardín de mi abuela en Puerto Rico hasta hacer tutoriales de maquillaje y jugar con juguetes pequeñitos (también haciendo reseñas para dichos juguetes pequeñitos). Disfrutaba documentándolo todo. También editaba mis vídeos lo mejor que podía. Utilizaba música y diferentes efectos para pulir mi trabajo. Es algo que he seguido haciendo y por lo que he desarrollado una pasión. Ahora me doy cuenta de que lo que me apasiona es el arte de narrar historias.

The School of The New York Times no sólo me permitirá aprender de profesores increíbles, sino que también me inspirará para crear más y desarrollar habilidades de observación y narración a través de los lentes de la moda, la fotografía y el cine. Creo que estas habilidades tendrán un impacto en este mundo. Me darán la confianza necesaria para utilizar mi arte para resaltar problemas sociales y darles una voz a quienes quizás no la tengan en este momento. Sería un sueño hecho realidad si tuviera la oportunidad de explorar la industria de los medios de esta manera.

Estoy muy agradecida porque cuento con el apoyo de mi familia para seguir mis sueños. Sin embargo, el programa está por encima de lo que podemos pagar, por lo que solicito ayuda. Necesito su apoyo para pagar la matrícula, materiales y otros gastos del programa. Cualquier ayuda que puedan ofrecerme hará una gran diferencia. Toda donación ayuda.
