As some of you may know, my brother-in-law, Jordon Cassady, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. January 2 started out as any other day for the Cassady family and ended with Jordon in a medically induced coma in the ICU. He had a seizure while at work that afternoon. He would spend the next 8 days in the hospital and after many scans, tests, and biopsies, the results came back as an Astrocytoma, grade II.
The next step for Jordon is an appointment with a neuro-oncologist at UAB the first week of February. I have included the latest update in what Kari has named The Cancer Chronicles:
The Cancer Chronicles - Update 6
Today Jordon saw his neurosurgeon, Dr. Kast, for his post-op visit. Everything looks great and he has been cleared to be left alone! He's thrilled. Bless him, he loves me, but honestly a little bit of me is a lot to take, and he could sure use some alone time! wink emoticon I will be headed back to work on Monday as Jordon will need me much more in the next few weeks and months than he does now.
Our appointment at UAB has been scheduled for February 4th and we look forward to moving in the right direction. Jordon's cousin, Audra, is a dermatologist in Houston and her husband works at Baylor University. We have sent Jordon's information to the neurology department at Baylor and were notified by Audra today that they would like to see him in person. So, we will begin to plan a trip to Houston soon as well. We couldn't be more grateful for Audra and her husband, CristianLasagna Reeves, for assisting us with this and look forward to seeing them when we are there!
I have also spoken to a representative at MD Anderson, and if we would like, Jordon will be seen by them, as well, in March. We have been very blessed by the medical community during this time. Again, I will say thanks to all at ECM who took such great care of him while we were there. We have a world-class hospital right here at home!
We continue to feel your prayers and covet them as well. I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support shown to us and I absolutely cannot wait to repay it to you all in the future, albeit under different circumstances than ours, I hope! Thank you, all.
Love and gratitude, KK/Jordon/Andrew
Jordon will have a long road ahead of him as the plan for his treatment will include chemotherapy and radiation in hopes of shrinking his tumor to an operable size. This account is being set up in hopes to offset the enormous medical costs that will be coming their way, starting with helping to cover their medical bills from the 8 days Jordon spent in the hospital and continuing with follow up appointments, the appointment at UAB and going from there.
This young family has been through so much. My sister's strength and positivity throughout this ordeal has been amazing. They have such a strong faith and are putting their trust in God as He is in control. Any support that you can offer to this young family would be greatly appreciated and we would be forever grateful to you. Let's help Jordon kick this!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Lisa Harp Mellon
