Im Evie’s aunty and would like to tell you about Evie.
Evie's Cancer Journey began at the end of May 2024 when she was diagnosed at Newcastle RVI with a very rare childhood cancer called 'Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma'. Evie received intensive chemotherapy Newcastle (first option) and experienced side effects from treatment including hair loss, sickness and nerve damage. In November 2024 Evie received 5 and a half weeks of radiotherapy to the initial tumor site which also came with its own side effects. This ran alongside active chemotherapy, meaning Evie had to endure two types of treatments at the same time. These treatments finished in December 2024 and Evie rang the bell for radiotherapy. In January 2025 Evie started maintenance chemo (second opinion), which ran for a period of 12 months. During these twelve months, normal life returned to an extent. She started taking part in various activities, albeit with limitations and she was attending school whenever possible. We created a new normal. In December 2025 maintenance chemo concluded. Unfortunately, in February 2026 a routine scan detected an abnormality of fluid buildup in the chest and a pericardial infusion (fluid around heart). This resulted in emergency tests and she spent a few days in PICU (children's intensive care). We were informed during this time that Evie's cancer had returned and we were dealing with a 'relapse'. Evie's next option of chemotherapy then commenced, to enable us to try to regain control of the situation. Evie lost her hair again and experienced other side effects associated with chemotherapy. By May 2026 it was evident that the cancer was beginning to outsmart the chemotherapy. It was agreed at this point that Evie should undergo a short cycle of radiotherapy to tackle a new 'area of concern'. Another round of chemotherapy (fourth option) commenced. Unfortunately Evie was not on this chemotherapy for very long and it was apparent that the cancer was evolving (becoming more complex). After further scans we were told that Evie's cancer was outsmarting treatments and that we are now running out of treatment options. In September 2026 Evie commenced her fifth and final treatment option available. This all reflects the reality of the situation we're currently in. All treatment avenues have been explored and we are out of options. As you can appreciate, this news has devastated Evie, her family and her friends. The priority now is to ensure any remaining time left with Evie is used to create as many memories as possible and go through Evie's wish list to turn these wishes into reality. Unfortunately some of these wishes cannot be granted without the financial help and support from caring individuals and businesses alike. It's important that Evie's time left isn't just about hospital visits, cancer treatments, etc. She deserves to be a child, she deserves to shop with her friends, laugh until her stomach hurts, go places she's always wanted to go, spend time with the people she loves and make every memory possible. Money can't cure Evie but it will ensure she gets to live the life she deserves in the remaining time she has left. It is a fight against time; we simply don't know how long we've got left with her. This is soul destroying but one thing we can guarantee, with your kind help, memories can be made and we can give her the best send off when the time comes. No child should go through this.
