Evicted When Hospitalized For Medical Crisis Need to Rebuild

Hi, I’m Maggie.

For most of my life, I’ve been the caregiver working as a CNA, showing up for others & giving even when I had very little to give. But after a sudden medical crisis, my life was turned upside down. I’m now disabled and fighting to rebuild.

In early 2023, I developed a rare vitamin deficiency (Copper Deficiency Myeloneuropathy) that caused permanent nerve damage. I became wheelchair-dependent almost overnight. While I was hospitalized trying to survive, I was evicted from my apartment. My car was towed. I lost nearly everything I owned all without being able to fight back.

I originally started a GoFundMe two years ago but I paused it after being warned it could affect my eligibility for assistance. Now, two years later, I’m still in survival mode. Still stuck in a motel. Still choosing between food, medication or having a roof over my head. Still trying.

And I’m tired, in every way a person can be tired. My body hurts, my heart hurts, my spirit is worn down but somehow I still have a little fight left.

I’ve applied for every kind of assistance you can think of, housing, medical, food and I keep getting denied. Most programs say I make “too much” because their income limit is $1,500/month, even though just my motel room costs that much. To be perfectly transparent, I’m terrified. With the way things are shifting in our government, I worry I may never qualify for help no matter how badly I need it.

I’m working part-time, as much as I can. But it's not enough to get ahead only enough to keep from falling apart. And I don’t want to just exist anymore. I want a chance to live again.

Your support will help me:

Pay for safe, stable housing (motel and beyond)

Cover prescriptions, basic necessities and food.

Build toward something more permanent. I’m hoping to get enough support to move out of the motel, feel safer & hopefully building a real sense of home again.

Stop living in crisis mode & start building a future I can believe in.

Full disclosure:

This isn’t my first attempt at fundraising. I started a GoFundMe back when this first happened, but I paused it after being warned about how it might affect benefits. Since then, I’ve been battling nonstop to get approved for disability or support through DSHS. That campaign is still visible for anyone who wants to understand the timeline or follow the full story:

I’m doing my best to keep going, stay honest & stay hopeful. Thank you for reading, for sharing if you can & hopefully caring.

With gratitude & respect,

Maggie
