Hi, my name is Matthew, and I’m 19 years old.
Since August of last year, I’ve been the full-time caregiver for my grandfather, Joseph, after he suffered a severe stroke that left him completely dependent on me. I took on this responsibility out of love and necessity, but it has come with immense emotional and financial challenges.
Until recently, I was also caring for my grandmother, Joni, who battled Leukemia. Sadly, she passed away at the end of May this year. Losing her has been devastating. She was not only my grandmother but also a guiding light in my life.
Before their health declined, both of my grandparents were hardworking and independent. My grandfather was a dedicated machinist, and my grandmother worked as a doula, helping care for newborns and their mothers.
Our situation took another difficult turn in April when we were evicted from our home. Since then, my grandfather and I have been living out of motels, doing our best to get by day to day.
Unfortunately, I don’t have parents I can turn to for help. my mom and dad have been out of the picture for many years. I also don’t have any close relatives in California. My goal is to eventually move to the East Coast, where I do have family and can begin building a more stable life for both my grandfather and me.
Right now, I’m asking for support to help us survive whether it’s covering the cost of our motel room or saving toward plane tickets so we can relocate. Any amount, no matter how small, truly makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, sharing, and supporting us in any way you can.
With gratitude,
Matthew
