Evgen’s Spinal Fusion
Donation protected
Let me tell you about the sweetest most humble, amazing person. Evgen and I have been married for almost 10 years. We have 4 beautiful children and a crazy busy but fun house! About 7 years ago Evgen started to have back pain. We chalked it up to his profession. Evgen is a Red Seal Automotive Technician. After a few months I finally convinced him to go to the Doctor and get it checked out. After multiple doctors visits he got a referral to a back and spine centre. There he met with a Dr that sent him for selective nerve root block injections. After the first injection Evgen FINALLY had some relief! Only to find out the injection wore off after about a month. These injections are only allowed every 3 months. Evgen began receiving these injections every 3 months for about 3 years. 3 years later and after multiple scans and tests we went back to his Doctor to ask for a surgeons opinion. With 2 small kids and one on the way we needed to see if there was a fix for this. Surgery was required. Left L5-S1 disketomy and decompression was required. January 2019, surgery. 6 months recovery. He was almost able to do whatever he wanted. He could play with the kids. He could ride a bike. He could walk the zoo. A year and a half later he’s in pain again. Waiting for an MRI to see the damage. Bad news surgery was required AGAIN. Disketomy and decompression AGAIN. November 2021 surgery, but this time not even 3 months after, he is no longer able to sit, stand or walk without being in excruciating pain. Working with a cane. This time it’s a spinal fusion that’s needed. Steel plates, rods, screws. Six months to one year recovery. The surgeon wants ANOTHER MRI however it needs to be done NOW and the only way that will happen is if we pay for one. Otherwise the wait for one is 10-22 months. This will require $800 alone. Not exactly something we have just laying around. Now with 4 kids my husband is hesitant to go ahead with the surgery because of finances. He wants to provide for us but if he doesn’t have the surgery he WONT be able to. Short term benefits are not available to us. We are hoping to raise enough money to cover medical bills and any other costs that come up in the next 6 months so he can have the surgery and not stress and push to go back to work early. Thank you to each and everyone who takes the time to read our story.
