Everyone Welcome – Reclaiming England Flags in Manchester

Across Manchester, we’ve all seen the wave of England flags being tied to lampposts and public spaces. We all know the deeper meaning of this surge in flags is a message of hate, used to tell people they are not welcome.

We want to change that.

Instead of letting these flags be a symbol that chills us, we’re inviting Manchester artists and creatives to transform them into something positive: flags that say “EVERYONE WELCOME.”

Here’s the plan:

We’ll hold an open call day for local artists to come and add EVERYONE WELCOME to England flags in their own unique style, through paint, print, stitching, or any form of artwork. Everyone will be welcome to come along and contribute if you want to bring a flag down and use one of our stencils.

We’ll re-hang these flags around Manchester, turning them into a powerful, visible reminder that this city is for all of us.

The message is simple: if the flags are truly about pride and not hate, then no one should mind them carrying a message of inclusion.

To make this happen, we need to raise £600 to cover the cost of flags, materials, and supplies. Every donation, big or small, will directly help us reclaim space in our city and send a message of love and solidarity.

Manchester is about community, resilience, and inclusivity. Let’s make sure our streets reflect that.
