Shea David is a mythical creature. Those who know her will say that this is true because for someone to be so full of compassion, abiding love, and creativity, they're clearly some kind of magical person. Such is Shea. She has a taxidermy deer head named Murphy. Her tattoos are cooler than yours, probably. And she's one of the kindest people I've ever known.
Shea is stubborn, and not the type to ask for help if she can avoid it. If you were to ask her, she would go on and on how there are other people more deserving, and that she shouldn't be the one to benefit from your generosity. She would tell you about somebody else, because that's the sort of person that she is. But this time, she could use some help.
Shea has been unemployed for the past nine months due to severe symptoms of C-PTSD, Major Depression, and Anxiety. She is unable to work because she is waiting for disability income approval, which can be a very long and arduous process. Her current income is $194 a month in food stamps, and $300 a month in cash assistance. After rent, bills, food, etc... She's in the red month to month. Shea lives in an apartment with her partner, but their hourly wage is not enough to support them both. They're over their heads, and they need some help.
Shea is applying for disability income so that she will be able to cover her bills and seek treatment for her conditions. C-PTSD isn't any less serious or impactful than a physical injury or any other illness that prevents someone from working. It's horrible and exhausting, but it is treatable. With a little help, Shea will be able to get the treatment that she needs.
The fundraising goal is set so that Shea and her partner can catch up on bills, save to move into a healthier environment to assist in her recovery, and keep her going until disability income is approved so she can receive the treatment that she needs to be able to live her life.
And because she's just so freakin' great, Shea is offering to make art pieces or offer existing pieces of art in exchange for your donations. Some examples are in this post, and can also be seen at her art tumblr, or her Instagram.
