Our goal is to:
Purchase inclusive playground equipment, wheelchair-accessible ground covering, necessary borders, and wheelchair-accessible access ramps to be installed by Summer 2019.
These items will allow for students with special needs to have access to playground equipment - access that they currently do not have - where they can integrate and play with their typically-developed peers. The goal goes beyond the simple addition of a few accessible pieces of equipment but instead focuses on the mutually beneficial and important value of inclusive play between students who are typically-developed and those of diverse abilities.
Rose Park Elementary School’s PTA, a 501(c)(3) organization, is hoping to raise $429,000 to cover the cost of "Every Child Plays" - An Inclusive Playground Project. The PTA has raised $11,200 to date, is actively fundraising towards the goal, and is pursuing additional funds through corporate donors, grants, local small businesses, community clubs, and foundations.
*Inclusive Playground Equipment - $174,000
*Freight/Shipping Costs - $7,000
*Concrete Base/Border (for surfacing) - $75,000
*Ground Cover (PlayBound by Surface America) - $173,000
*Removal of all and relocation of some existing equipment as well as the installation of new equipment is free via our School District's facilities team.
Your contribution will help make a long-term impact on not only the Independent Living students at Rose Park Elementary but to our community as a whole by:
**Fostering creativity, play, and opportunities for all who use it
**Allowing children of all abilities to play together
**Heightening awareness and sensitivity to persons of differing abilities
**Increasing inclusive play between peers
**Improving physical and social/emotional development of all students
**Increasing opportunities for community connectivity
