Every step for Mia- Ben Nevis

Donation protected
When I first met Mia, I was just under a week into recovering from brain surgery following a ruptured aneurysm. I was physically and emotionally drained, unsure of what recovery would look like and feeling my complete lowest.

Then Mia was admitted to the hospital bed next to mine. She was preparing for her own brain surgery to remove a tumour. Despite the challenges we were both facing, we gradually began to talk, bonding over cups of tea and Biscoff biscuits. A heartening friendship began to form, offering us both comfort and companionship, especially during the long nights when our loved ones couldn’t be there.

We’re similar in age, Mia was 20 and I was 22 at the time, both facing something most people our age couldn’t imagine. That connection made a huge difference. It’s rare to meet someone who truly understands what it’s like to go through something as life- altering as brain surgery, but Mia is one of those few people I can relate to, she is someone who “gets it” without needing an explanation.

Unfortunately, due to the location of Mia’s tumour, not all of it could be removed. She’s recently had the painful news that the tumour has grown and she’s now preparing to start radiotherapy, alongside other difficult updates.

Mia has been incredibly strong and continues to amaze me with her positivity, but no one should have to face something like this alone. That’s why I’ve decided to do something to help, something that also holds personal meaning for me.

On the 8th of June I’ll be climbing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, to raise money for Mia. It’s a challenge I’ve wanted to take on since my haemorrhage, a symbol of resilience and recovery. Now, it feels like the perfect way to support my friend during one of the hardest times of her life.

All funds raised will go directly towards helping Mia and her family with the costs associated with her treatment and recovery. This includes travel expenses to and from the hospital, specialist equipment to aid her daily life, therapy and rehabilitation services, and anything else that can ease the financial burden of this incredibly tough journey.

All are welcome to join me on the climb, and any donations are massively appreciated. Every bit will go towards helping Mia as she undergoes treatment and faces the road ahead.
