Zepplin’s Story: Every Second Counted
A couple of days ago (on Tuesday, October 7, 2025), the doors of Burlington Humane burst open as a man and his young daughter rushed in—cradling a tiny, lifeless kitten in their arms. Zepplin wasn’t moving. He wasn’t breathing properly. His body was cold and limp.
Moments earlier, they had stopped at Fortino’s for groceries when they spotted him—collapsed against the wheel of their car. There was no time to think. The father gently lifted the fragile kitten and held him close as they sped toward Burlington Humane, hoping, praying, that someone could help.
When they arrived, our staff could see right away that this little one was fading fast. Without hesitation, we wrapped Zepplin in a blanket and rushed him straight to the Burlington Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital (BVERH). His breathing was shallow. His heartbeat, barely there. We honestly didn’t know if he would survive the short drive.
But we had to try.
When we arrived at the Burlington Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital, the medical team immediately sprang into action. Within seconds, they had Zepplin in an oxygen tent, administering fluids and closely monitoring his tiny, fragile heartbeat. His respiration rate was dangerously high—each rapid breath putting more strain on his little body.
For two long days, Zepplin fought for his life under their constant care. Slowly, his breathing began to steady, and the spark of life returned to his eyes. Only then was he stable enough to come back to Burlington Humane.
But Zepplin’s fight isn’t over yet. He’s still weak and requires ongoing medical support, special care, and time to heal. His emergency bills alone were astronomical, and we need your help to continue giving him the care he desperately needs.
Please, if you’re able, consider donating to help this 5 week old kitten and other animals like him to get their second chance at life. Every contribution makes a difference.
