Every Mikkle Mek a Muckle: Pauline's Hurricane Melissa Fund

Donation protected
If you know our family, you know Pauline. There's no version of us without her.

For over 30 years, she has given bits of herself every single day to raise my sisters and me, and now our kids. Our lives are immeasurably better because of her love. Simply put, she is our second mom.

Pauline has three beautiful children of her own in Kilmarnock, St. Elizabeth. Hurricane Melissa has completely destroyed their home and their entire community. Everything they know is gone. Right now, communication is nearly impossible. She knows they are safe, but the roads are impassable and she cannot reach them.

In Jamaica, there's a saying: "every mikkle mek a muckle," meaning every little bit adds up. We're raising funds to help Pauline get supplies to her family, rebuild her home, and support her community's recovery.

There is no one more selfless or deserving than Pauline. If you've reached out asking how you can help, I'm asking you to please donate whatever you can. Pauline is deeply grateful for any help during this difficult time. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference.

In gratitude,

Kayla, Summer, Kristen, Jodi & the entire Campbell Family.

About the campaign:

My name is Kayla Campbell, and I'm organizing this fundraiser from Los Angeles, CA where I live and attend law school. I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. Pauline is our beloved godmother who has been part of our family for over 30 years. She helped raise me and my sisters—Summer, Kristen, and Jodi—and continues to be a grandmother figure to our children.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used specifically to rebuild Pauline's home that was destroyed in Hurricane Melissa, provide emergency shelter and temporary housing for her three children, purchase essential clothing and personal items to replace what was lost in the hurricane, secure basic necessities including food, water, and medical supplies, cover transportation costs to deliver supplies once roads are passable, and help with communication devices to keep the family connected. We will provide regular updates on how the funds are being distributed and used throughout the recovery process.

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who has donated. It means everything. At this time, Pauline has been able to safely reach her kids. The destruction is worse than we anticipated, but we are grateful they are together and safe. Because Pauline does not have a bank account or an email address, Kristen Campbell (my sister and Pauline's direct employer) has been listed on GoFundMe as a beneficiary, who will receive these funds on Pauline’s behalf. Kristen will withdraw the funds and deliver them directly to Pauline in cash. We will post updates when Pauline sees everything we were able to raise!

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED: Pauline’s roof and windows were completely destroyed, and her home was flooded with water. These funds will be used to replace the roof and windows — this time with stronger, more durable materials to withstand future storms or hurricanes. We have already consulted with contractors to rebuild the portions of the house that were damaged. Nearly all of her belongings and furniture were ruined by the flooding, and the remaining funds will help replace other items that were lost. Specifically, the funds will go toward rebuilding the roof, reinstalling all of the destroyed windows, and replacing essential furniture and household items damaged beyond repair.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I am Kayla Campbell and I'm from Kingston, Jamaica. Growing up, Pauline was my nanny and lived with us. She started working with my family when my mom was pregnant with me, and over the years she became so much more — she is our second mom. She is family. I’m away in law school in the U.S., and while I can’t be home right now, this fundraiser has given me a way to help from afar.
