Wij zijn Fritz en Wendy — een trots Jamaicaans–Nederlands gezin met drie prachtige kinderen. We wonen in Nederland, maar ons hart is op dit moment duizenden kilometers verderop — in Jamaica.
Op dinsdag 28 oktober heeft orkaan Melissa ons geliefde eiland zwaar getroffen en een spoor van verwoesting achtergelaten. Het westen van Jamaica is het hardst geraakt — dat is wat we allemaal hebben gezien en gehoord in het nieuws. Maar voor ons zijn het geen krantenkoppen het komt enorm dichtbij.
Onze familie en vrienden wonen in St. James en Hanover, en tot op de dag van vandaag hebben we velen van hen nog niet kunnen bereiken. Die stilte zegt genoeg over hoe ernstig de situatie is.
Er zijn veel inzamelingsacties gaande, en we weten dat wij niet de enigen zijn die proberen te helpen. Iedereen heeft nu hulp nodig. Maar als Jamaicaan voelt Fritz dat hij persoonlijk iets moet doen — om ervoor te zorgen dat elke euro of dollar direct terechtkomt bij de mensen die het écht nodig hebben.

We willen mensen letterlijk een dak boven hun hoofd geven — en waar mogelijk helpen hun huis en leven opnieuw op te bouwen.
In Jamaica zeggen we: “Every mickle mek a muckle” — wat betekent dat zelfs de kleinste bijdrage optelt en een groot verschil kan maken. Als iedereen die dit leest een paar euro’s of dollars geeft, kunnen we samen directe en tastbare hulp bieden aan de mensen die dat het hardst nodig hebben.

➡️ Fritz reist zo snel mogelijk naar Jamaica om beschadigde daken te repareren en, waar mogelijk, kleine huisjes te herbouwen met betonblokken en cement.
➡️ Ons eerste doel is om gezinnen weer een veilig en stevig dak boven hun hoofd te geven — bescherming tegen de zon, de regen en toekomstige stormen. ➡️ Materialen zoals zinkplaten, hout, spijkers, betonblokken en cement worden gebruikt om huizen te herstellen en opnieuw op te bouwen in de zwaarst getroffen gebieden.
➡️ Fritz werkt daar samen met lokale bouwers en vrijwilligers, en gebruikt zijn persoonlijke netwerk om ervoor te zorgen dat elke donatie rechtstreeks bij de mensen terechtkomt die hulp nodig hebben — niet via tussenpersonen, maar van hand tot hand, van hart tot hart.

Tijdens zijn verblijf in Jamaica zal Fritz updates en foto’s delen, zodat je kunt zien welk verschil jouw steun en liefde maken.
Mocht Fritz om welke reden dan ook zijn missie niet volledig kunnen uitvoeren, dan zal het ingezamelde geld worden gedoneerd aan een betrouwbare lokale organisatie, zoals Food for the Poor.

We are Fritz and Wendy — a proud Jamaican–Dutch family with three beautiful children. We live in the Netherlands, but right now, our hearts are thousands of miles away — in Jamaica.
On Tuesday, October 28th, Hurricane Melissa tore through our beloved island and left behind unimaginable devastation. The western region was hit the hardest — that’s what we’ve all seen and heard in the news. But for us, it’s not just headlines.
Our family and friends live in St. James and Hanover, and to this day, we haven’t been able to reach many of them. The silence speaks volumes about how severe things truly are.
There are many fundraisers out there, and we know we’re not the only ones trying to help. Everyone is in need right now. But as a Jamaican, Fritz feels deeply that he must help personally — to make sure that every euro or dollar donated reaches the people directly.
⸻ Our mission is clear:
We want to give people literally a roof over their heads — and when possible, help them rebuild their homes and their lives.
In Jamaica, we say, “Every mickle mek a muckle” — meaning that even the smallest contribution adds up and can make a real difference. If everyone who reads this gives just a few euros or dollars, together we can bring real, immediate relief to those who need it most.
⸻ Our plan:
➡️ Fritz will travel to Jamaica as soon as possible to help repair damaged roofs and, where possible, rebuild small homes using concrete blocks and cement.
➡️ The first goal is to make sure families have a safe and solid roof over their heads — protection from the sun, the rain, and the storms still to come.
➡️ Materials like zinc sheets, wood, nails, concrete blocks, and cement will be used to restore and rebuild homes in the hardest-hit areas.
Fritz will work side by side with local builders and volunteers, using his personal network to make sure that every donation directly helps those most in need — not through organizations or middlemen, but hand to hand, heart to heart.
“As part of our mission in Jamaica, we aim to help people properly anchor their corrugated roofing sheets to make their homes hurricane-safe.”
Doing nothing is not an option. We feel a powerful calling to act — to help our community stand again, stronger than before.
We will cover Fritz’s travel and accommodation costs ourselves — your donations will go entirely toward helping those affected.
While in Jamaica, Fritz will share updates and photos so you can see how your love and generosity are making a difference.
If for any reason Fritz cannot carry out this mission fully, all funds will go to a trusted local charity, such as Food for the Poor.
