In February of 2013 Carmen was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and ever since then her battle has been ongoing. She has battled cancer twice, received a bone marrow transplant, and has survived being in a medically induced coma for three months that even the doctors did not see her coming out of. Now, on July 9th, 2020 Carmen received a double lung transplant. Her mother and brother drove up from Mississippi that day and since then have been staying in a hotel so that they can be close to the hospital. Recently Carmen’s mother has had to leave Chicago to return home to take care of her husband who has been put on Hospice, leaving her brother to take care of everything in Chicago. This family is now taking on medical bills for Carmen’s transplant, her fathers hospice care, and the ever growing costs of food and hotel in Chicago. Originally they only planned on Carmen being in the hospital for a few weeks, it has now been over a month and unfortunately she is still in ICU, and there is no way to know how much longer she may be there. Unfortunately due to there being a travel ban between Illinois and Wisconsin, Carmen’s brother has no choice but to stay in the hotel and he is one of the very few people who are able to visit her. This has been very hard for Carmen’s three children especially, and her support system who is not able to go see her. While we know this is a hard time for everyone, this family is in need of help. Wither  it be a dollar amount, a share of this post, or your love and prayers, we are extremely grateful.
