Every $30 is a skateboard for a kid - Angel Boards

Donation protected
I am raising funds to give out complete DGK skateboards to students in DPS61. We are a Title 1 district (high majority of families and students experience financial insecurity) so the initial investment of a complete, and safe, skateboard (usually $100+) is an impossibility for an overwhelming majority of students who are already not exposed to skateboarding.

I am a Special Education Teaching Assistant in DPS61 and have attended all of South Shores, John's Hill, Eisenhower, Richland, and Millikin. I cannot overstate the manner in which skateboarding was a saving grace in my life as a teenager in Decatur. The kindness of skateboarders, specifically at Fairview Park here in Decatur is heartwarming and awe-inspiring!

DGK is currently doing a deal in which $30 will get you a complete DGK setup (usually $140+). The only other complete boards at this pricepoint are walmart boards that are genuinely dangerous and extremely easy to hurt yourself on. This effort will make sure these kids have a safe, reliable, and well, cool, way to start skating.

There is a $50 flat shipping fee on any orders as heavy as the one that would come from this fundraiser as well as tax. While previously assumed by myself at the creation of this page, an anonymous donor has personally assumed responsibility for the afforementioned shipping cost as well as the tax, totalling $82.60 per order of 10 setups. This private donation has been made in the name of Angel Jesus Arauz. Angel was a young skater from Decatur not unlike the students who will receive these boards. Sweet Angel left us for a beautiful skatepark in the clouds in April of 2021. He was an artist like no other with a taste in music cooler than you could even begin to imagine. The guy skated like his life depended on it, there was no crowd like the one he drew, if Angel was trying to ollie over 6 stacked up boards at Fairview Skatepark you would have thought the crowd was watching Queen perform at Live Aid... Angel was an amazing friend and person like no other. He would often exclaim "no way!?" in response to completely mundane claims about ones day and man, did he love a Dr. Pepper. Rest In Peace, legend.

At every step in this I will update this page to reflect the status of the order and then the status of the skateboards. Ideas are regularly being drafted for ways to pay tribute and show appreciation to the donors.
