Eversfield Charity Land Row Challenge Tuesday 8th October
Donation protected
We are land rowing the distance of the English Channel to raise funds to support the remarkable Harry Moseley Cancer Charity. Thank you for supporting us and Helping Harry to Help Others.
Harry was an incredibly brave little boy who sadly lost his battle with brain cancer suddenly in October 2011. Harry founded and continues to inspire the incredible Help Harry Help Others Cancer Charity. This year our whole school community will be working with Harry’s mum and charity CEO, Georgie, to continue Harry’s dream to help find a cure by supporting local brain cancer research projects, and offer cancer patients and their families and friends any support that is needed outside of treatment.
It is only through public support, and the charity's own fundraising efforts, that Harry’s great work lives on. The drop-in Cancer Centre helps thousands of adults and children affected by any type of cancer with over 20 services offered, including emotional, practical and financial support.
Part of Harry's mission was to raise funds to help research projects to find a cure for brain tumours. Currently, research into brain tumours makes up just 1% of the national spend on cancer research and yet across the UK, more children and people under the age of 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer. Their team of field specialists, led by Dr Andrew Peet, advise the charity on those programmes whose work can help reverse this trend.
Our mixed squad of staff (all enthusiastic but some of us frankly of questionable rowing ability) will be taking turns to row the 33.7 kilometres to France. We are aiming to complete the distance in under 6 hours during the school day, helped on by the cheers and encouragement of pupils and supporters throughout the day.
Thank you for donating and helping Harry. You can find out more about the work of the charity here
