Dear family & friends,
As many of you know my brother & sister in law, Cheryl & Adrian are expecting their 3rd precious child into their family. They have two amazing children, Natalie 3 & Jeremiah 2, who are awaiting the arrival of their baby sister Everly Grace. During this time of celebration, they have learned that not only are they expecting a sweet baby girl, but that in her ultrasound she showed different complications. After some blood work, ultrasounds, & an amniocentesis came the devastating news that no expecting parents should ever have to hear. The baby was diagnosed with a condition called Trisomy 18. Edwards syndrome, also known as Trisomy 18, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all, or part of a third copy of chromosome 18. Many parts of the body are affected & babies are often born small or have heart defects. Other deformities include a small head, small jaw, clenched fists with overlapping fingers, & severe intellectual disabilities. Trisomy 18 has no treatment and may be fatal before birth or within the first year of life. At this point in the pregnancy both Cheryl & Everly are doing great, she is currently scheduled to arrive on September 7th. With this diagnosis they have had several checkups for Everly at Valley Children’s Hospital. The doctors have told them that she has some physical deformities, a heart problem, & a cyst in her brain. They have been told that heart surgery is not an option at birth; she will need to be observed after birth to figure out the next step in caring for her. We ask at this time that you all keep them in your prayers; we believe with prayer that miracles can happen through God’s grace & healing hands.
Most of you are aware that not all insurances cover the procedures or only cover a certain percentage & are billed the remaining balance. With her diagnosis we know she will be in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) after birth until they release her home under hospice care & will make her time at home as comfortable as they can. Adrian is a very proud person & does not like to ask for any help no matter the situation. We think this comes from being in the Marines where they are trained to improvise, adapt, & overcome any obstacle. This is something that is instilled in them and they carry it for life. Well, this has hit home and they are in their own life battle with their precious Everly Grace, a battle that he cannot control or fix on his own, but together as a family we can overcome this battle with them.
Both Cheryl & Adrian have always been hard workers. Before she was pregnant they made the decision for Cheryl to stay home to raise Natalie and Jeremiah. She has been doing a wonderful job with them both & is in the middle of obtaining her license to open her own daycare. Since then Adrian has been the sole income provider. Everly will soon be here & Adrian will have to take time off work with only partial pay per the Paid Family Leave Act. My mom Irene & I have taken it upon ourselves with their permission to ask for help. We have started this Go Fund Me to help them with the medical bills, loss of income, and anything Everly will need during this time. Anything that you can donate will be greatly appreciated. Please help us share this with everyone so we can together help them during this difficult time without any more stress and put their focus on Everly’s time here with them.
Thank you,
The Lopez, Loredo, Garcia Family.
