Evergreen Teachers Against Child Detention

We are a collective of teachers in our second year of the master’s in teaching program at the Evergreen State college. We come from various paths in life, but we come together to challenge and support each other in order to become better educators for future generations. All of us have a passion for social justice, and prior to becoming teachers we have all participated in community organizing in different capacities. As educators, we believe that it is critical to stand up against injustice in the classroom and in the streets! As teachers it is our duty to serve all students regardless of immigration status.

This February, we are takin theory into practice by attending the teach-in for freedom in in El Paso, Texas and we need your help! We are asking our community to support us in raising money to get to El Paso. Teachers from all over the country will gather to take a stance against the illegal imprisonment of immigrant children. We plan to gather information and bring it back to community to teach our own students, colleagues and friends about the importance of human rights in our country. All of the money from this fundraiser will go towards airfare to get to Texas!
