Hi, I'm Chelsea and this is my best friend Everest. A sweet, loyal, energetic, 4 year old husky/corgi mix with a lust for life. She's been a part of my life since she was just 8 weeks old. Wherever I go, she goes. She has even helped me passionately care for our various groups of foster kitties. She's known as mama Everest in our house. She has honestly gotten me through some very rough times in my life, and now it's time I get her through hers. See Everest lost all mobility and sensation in her back legs suddenly, Friday (12/3), and needed emergency, lifesaving surgery to repair several ruptured discs and hemorrhaging. Doctors have given her a 20% chance at making a full recovery and regaining sensation. She has a very long, uncertain road ahead and I will do whatever it takes to give my girl the best chance at recovery. I am desperately asking for any donations to help us pay for her overwhelming vet bills and weekly physical therapy she will require. If you aren't in a position to donate, if you could please keep us in your prayers and help share Everest's story with others. I am single mother to my two amazing children and between juggling work and school to hopefully become a vet tech, I am spread thin nowadays. As this all happened so suddenly, and unexpectedly right before the holidays our family is praying for a Christmas miracle that Everest can walk again. Thank you all for reading, we are forever grateful

The Full Story:
Thursday December 2, 2021 started off like any other morning. I went to let our healthy, 4 year old Everest out into the yard. When I returned to let her in, I found her laying on the ground shaking and not wanting to move. I rushed her to the vet and they ran tests, took x-rays, and gave her an anti-inflammatory/pain injection. The x-ray showed demineralization in her vertebraes and vet thought she hurt her back. We were sent home with antibiotics for a UTI, pain medicine, and told to have her rest. At this time she was in good spirits, able to walk, urinate, and defecate on her own. Little did we know it was all going to go downhill from there.
When we woke up Friday morning, Everest had lost all mobility in her back legs. I rushed her back to her vet who referred us to the ER hospital to see a neurologist. I rushed her over as fast as I could and she was brought in immediately. I said goodbye and that I would see her real soon and that I loved her more than anything. I must of apologized to her a thousand times because I knew she was hurting. They called me minutes after and told me she was what they call, borderline paraplegia and losing sensationquickly. It was a time sensative matter and she would need an MRI and surgery immediately or would need to be euthanized due to the severity of her pain. There was not option, I had to save my girl! They gave her a 90% chance of recovering mobility. By the time she was being preped for an MRI she had already lost all sensation and pain reflexes in her hind area. This was not a good sign. The MRI showed she had several ruptured disks and bleeding at the injury site. Her chances immediately dropped to 50% recovering mobility. They called in the neurology team and Everest underwent emergency L2-5 hemolaminectomy with associated discectomy to remove a large amout of disc and hemorrhage at 2am, Saturday December 4th 2021. She has not regained sensation in the pelvic limbs and has also developed clinical signs of descending myelomalacia; fortunately, she has not shown signs of ascending myelomalacia. Everest is still unable to urinate on her own and may never be able to do so if she does not regain sensation. Doctors have given her a 20% chance at regaining mobility. She is home on strict crate rest, eating, drinking, and on 5 different medications. She is in good spirits and enjoys being a momma from a distance to her kitty brother, puppy brother, and 2 human children (who she thinks belong to her )

It is going to be a very long road ahead for my sweet girl as she will require alot of physical therapy from here on out. I'll never give up on her and I will always hold onto hope that she will make a full recovery. She is so young and is full of life. This will be a big adjustment for all of us especially for Everest, as she is used to being active and going everywhere with us. Please keep us in your prayers or send some positive, healing vibes our way and please donate if you see fit. I have included pictures of her bills as proof as well as trying to actively provide updates so please check the update section below! We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and are forever grateful. Chelsea, Giovanni(11), Leah (8), and Oakley (3mos)
