Everest Endurance: Running for Motor Neurone Disease

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

This campaign is in honour of my dad. In 2020, my beloved dad, Eugene Buttle, lost his courageous battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Watching him bravely face this devastating illness has motivated me to take action to raise money for this cause.

MND is a cruel and terminal disease that gradually strips away the abilities we often take for granted—speaking, moving, eating, and ultimately, breathing. My dad faced these challenges with incredible strength and patience, which is a constant inspiration to me on hard days.

Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge?

Back in 2014, the Ice Bucket Challenge took the world by storm, raising awareness and funds for ALS, a form of MND. I participated in it too, never imagining that this disease would one day touch my family so personally. The campaign was monumental, leading to the discovery of five new genes linked to ALS and the development of innovative treatments. It remains the largest social media movement in medical history.

Why This Matters

While the Ice Bucket Challenge has passed, the fight against MND continues. In a person’s lifetime, 1 in every 300 will risk developing ALS/MND, and they face a daunting and heartbreaking journey. We need to keep the momentum going to find a cure and support those affected by this relentless disease.

The Challenge Ahead

In 2019, the year my dad was diagnosed, I had planned to run my first marathon, with the ambition to do it on Mt. Everest. The progression of my dad's illness led me to postpone this goal. Now, in his memory and honour, I am determined to complete this challenge. On May 29th, I will be running the world's highest endurance race, pushing my limits to raise awareness and funds for MND.

How You Can Help

I aim to raise $1,500 for ALS Canada, which will help provide essential equipment and support to those battling MND, improving their quality of life. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a significant difference.

Please join me in supporting this vital cause. Your generosity will help us get one step closer to a world free from MND. To find out more about MND, please visit https://als.ca/what-is-als/.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Every contribution means the world to me.

With gratitude,
Maggie
