6 years ago, 5x 24 HR Solo World Champion Cory Wallace took on the task of raising money to help build a coaching/training center in Nepal. This was done via 4 x Annapurna Circuit FKT rides. He has been backed by the NCRR (Nepal Cyclists Ride to Rescue, generous donors and many great sponsors.
His goal last year was to set a FKT (Fastest known time) cycling to Everest Base Camp from Lukla. Completing the challenging athletic feat in 11 hrs 19 minutes. A few days ago an Italian Sky runner/biker champion, Marcello Ugazio smashed the record in a time of 10 hrs 16 minutes 26 seconds.
Cory will attempt to reclaim the FKT tomorrow on Friday May 3rd.
The plan is to combine this FKT with a fundraiser as the Nepal Training center is out of money as of June 1st. Rent is $60 CAD a minute month. The goal is to raise $2500 CAD.
The money will be used to keep the Nepal Cyclists training centre in Kathmandu open for another 2 years ($1440), + a $1000 buffer to update and add some training center gear as well as cover any upcoming maintenance.
