Hello. I am not a person who likes asking for help, but I am currently being strongarmed by my landlords to meet my rent and pay back for an electric bill issue they're only making known to me less than 24 hours before they shut off my electricity.
I was laid off from my job last month, severely impacting my income. Working as a digital artist on the side, I started working full-time freelance. However with my weekly loan repayments, I haven't been able to catch up with my rent like I had hoped. Unemployment benefits haven't been much help as I'm not set to get very much weekly and most of the time I make enough doing art that they disqualify me that week entirely; All I need to make is $200 a week for them to deny me my unemployment. With a $120 / a week loan repayment, I have basically no room to save up for rent at the moment unless my art business picks up.
I was given an ultimatum from the landlord today (May 10th) that I need to pay my owed $645 in rent plus the $75 late fee, as well as upwards of $325 in owed money for electric. I had misunderstood something before and my landlords never got it transferred to my name due to some equifax issues keeping me from getting it activated in my name, and they are now using that as leverage to try and evict me.
I don't like living here in Florida, but given my family situation before I got my own place, I don't think I would be able to last moving back in with either of my parents. I need help. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
