Care for the Kroetch Family

Just before 5 pm on Wednesday August 18th, Amber Kroetch and 4 of her children were in a serious car accident. At a dangerous intersection of Highway 16, Amber was struck by a Coca-Cola semi-truck. The driver of the truck hit their SUV which then struck a propane tank causing a leak but thankfully no explosion. As you can see from the picture, the impact was horrific and it is a miracle that the family survived. A couple at the scene of the accident helped to pull Amber and three of the children from the wreckage. Marty received a phone call regarding the accident and rushed to the scene where he helped rescue crews cut through the vehicle’s door with the jaws of life to free Silas who was trapped inside with serious lacerations and unconscious. Amber and three of the children were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Friday morning around 2 am Silas was life flighted to Sioux Falls via Black Hills Life Flight. Marty was able to accompany him on the flight and will be staying with Silas as he is still being treated at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Below is a list of the injuries.

* Amber suffered a fractured pelvis and dizziness. As of 8/20/21 she is home on bed rest

* Johannah (11 yrs) suffered a concussion and minor injuries and is now home.

* Lydiah (9 yrs) suffered a severe broken arm, a small lung puncture, and a concussion. Friday evening 8/20/21 she was released from the Rapid City hospital.

* Silas (7 yrs) was unconscious and suffered a severe laceration on his leg along with a fractured tibia and fibula. He also received a bad laceration down his forehead and nose. Silas has already had one surgery and tomorrow morning (8/21/21) he is scheduled to have more work done on his leg. Early this coming week he is scheduled for a surgery on his nose. Marty comments that “they have done a good job putting him back together”. As of 6:30 pm 8/20/21 Marty writes “I have not been able to communicate with Silas yet. He has opened his eyes and will look at me, but he seems to be in a high amount of pain. I can’t tell if he 100% knows who I am or where he is. They are planning on intubating him tonight with a breathing tube so that they can get an MRI. Silas will remain intubated until after the surgery tomorrow.”

* Oscar (9 months) remarkably was carried out of the vehicle with no injuries & is now home.

Marty, Stephen, Abi, and Boaz were not in the vehicle.

Marty has not asked for anything but prayer. Please pray for them as the road to recovery will certainly be lengthy. As their friends, we have started this Go Fund Me page to give Marty and Amber a way to share updates and prayer requests with their friends and loved ones. In addition, it gives us a format to share our love with them through notes of encouragement and by helping to meet some of the family’s financial needs which will no doubt add up quickly from lost wages and uncovered costs associated with the accident. Please join us in expressing our love and our Savior’s love for the Kroetch family whether through this site or in some other way.
