Hello,
We are having a very hard time. Moving from Lynchburg to Charlottesville to take a job as a school bus driver here we were homeless living in our car our first 6 months here. Some of you may remember. We've gone through many things besides that since our arrival. I've been in the hospital, our car has needed major repairs, my car was repossessed. My car is still in need of several repairs. I don't have a valid inspection sticker because I need new tires.
Anyway, we finally got into an apartment. I was not able to save any money prior to moving in. We desperately wanted out of the car. It's expensive to be homeless. No way to store or cook food. No place to lay down, or shower. It was wonderful finally having a place after 10 long months in our car. I did the best I could to furnish our place, getting items through marketplace and freebie alerts, thanks to all of you for that!! I also had to buy a lot of things. While still paying for insurance, food, phone bills household needs etc. My daughter cannot work, I won't start that up again. Let's just leave it at that. Fast forward. I still have my job, thankfully. But I'm also behind on everything. It sucks having to choose a bill or food. Last month we got an eviction notice with court date. With the help again, of Horizons in Lynchburg and my paycheck, we managed to get that paid so we could stay. However we still had the back rent, court fees and lawyer fees on the back burner. This month my check wasn't great. I missed a week due to a knee injury. I was not able to meet the payment. Last week on Wednesday we got an official eviction notice. I've not been evicted before so I didn't know it would move so quickly. Needless to say, we had til this morning to make something happen. Which is hard. Nothing that would help us open weekends. and I can't use my phone while I work (school bus driver). Leaving it in my daughters hands, we did what we could. We have an application in with social services. We also have an appointment set with the haven. It's for the day after our current eviction date. The landlord moved it for me after I called and begged her for just a little more time. The new date is Wednesday the 13th at 10am. That said, we need to be approved for the maximum amount social services can pay, which is $2500. That leaves us with $2100 to come up with. I get paid that same day. But, I've got to pay my car insurance and my note. Whatever I have left will go to the rent bill. I am asking this community which has been so kind and generous to us so far, with offers of food, clothing, furnishings and suggested resources, to please help us meet this goal. We can stay in our apartment if we can pay the bill in full. Which I will do my best to make happen. Which is why I'm here. Asking for help. I also took a second job. But, facing eviction I didn't want to start it just to have to turn around and quit. Please find it in your heart to help. I'm asking for a hand up, not a hand out. Happy holidays. I hope you all have a great holiday season. In case your wondering, my mom is 71 and lives in Florida on her SSDI check. She is my only family and can't help. If you need to ask anything of me, feel free to inbox me. I'm an honest person to the point I'll tell on myself. So no lies. I have all 3 of the eviction notices I can show you. Thank you again. I know we are all struggling. But even a little step is a step. So thanks for your time in reading this even if you cannot help. Feel free to share it.
