Evanston Family Fire Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Kris Buckley and her family, who give to (and take care of) others at the drop of a hat, had their home gutted by a fire on Saturday evening.  The house is currently uninhabitable and the family has been displaced. She and her three kids were home, and thankfully, were able to leave the premises without injuries.  They got their their two dogs, Sam and Frodo, out but Klyde, their beloved cat, is still missing or hiding, making things just that much tougher.   (See below for before and after of their front door.)

It was hard to get Kris to allow me to set up this fundraiser.  She is truly hesitant when so many others are in need. However, this is the 2nd loss of their home and belongings in 18 months.  And really, they deserve / need a break to be able to process this without the constant worry of finding funds to restore the basics. (For those who don’t know: Kris and family lost everything in their home and had their health majorly compromised due to mold in December of 2018).  Kris had then rented this house and turned it from a house into a truly beautiful home with fairy gardens and signs of love inside and out.

Saturday afternoon Kris spent time helping to deliver meals to some of Evanston’s most vulnerable residents on behalf of Evanston’s own, Chef Q.  While getting ready to paint a mural of hope on the garage with Maeve and Norah, and with Rowan inside with their two dogs and cat, they all heard a large “POP”.  Shortly after that, an uncontrollable fire was discovered.  (NOTE: check your smoke alarms to make sure they work...Kris’ may have saved lives here.)

Kris, Maeve, Rowan and Norah left their home with barely anything and will have to rebuild again.  We do not know yet what, if anything, may be recovered from the home and they were just lucky enough to grab phones, the car keys and Kris’s purse from near the back door at the last moment.  We also don’t know what renter’s insurance will cover and we have no time frame for when that will happen. As you can imagine, all are dealing with trauma.

Please consider helping the Buckley Barnes family today.  Every cent will go directly to them for immediate expenses and to rebuild their lives, as a family, in a new home, in a new space. Truly, as a I went to sleep last night, I thought that this could happen to any of us at any time.  Let’s treat the Buckley Barnes‘  family in the way we would hope people would treat us: with the love, compassion, respect and gratitude deserved. Just as Kris exudes love for all who know her, let’s show this family how very beloved they are to all of us.

With gratitude and faith.
